Play Area

The game(s) will be played within the designated play area(s) marked out before each series of games (ex. informed before tournament play). A player may not under any circumstance step over the line; any infraction will eliminate that player. A player may reach over the line to retrieve the ball, as long as the players hands or any other part of their body does not touch the floor opposite the center line.

Equipment

  • Players must wear proper attire.
  • Official "dodgeball's" must be used; These will be supplied prior to the match.
  • There will be six (6) dodgeball's used per match, placed even lengths apart on the center line.

Teams

A team will consist of up to 8 players. A team, during a match, can have only 6 players designated to play that match. Team's with more than 6 players can substitute players between matches; however the 6 players entered into a match must continue to play in that match without substitution.

Play

  • To start the game, 6 dodgeballs are placed equal lengths apart on the center line dividing the two halves of the play area.
  • A player is out if:
    • They are hit by a ball before it hits the floor and was thrown by a player on the opposing team;
    • A ball they have thrown was caught by a player on the opposing team before hitting the floor.
  • If a player catches a ball that was thrown from a player on the opposing team, the team who caught the ball returns an eliminated player to their team. Players return in the order of elimination.
  • A ball deflected by a held ball does not result in elimination.
  • A ball that was deflected off of a 'hit' player and not interfering with any obstacle (wall, backboard, etc) may be caught before it hits the ground and treated as a catch.
  • A ball rebounding off of a wall, backboard, etc. does not eliminate a player.
  • When all players of a team have been eliminated, the team that eliminated them is declared the winner of the match.

Safety

  • Players may not lift or support their teammates in catching a throw, etc.
  • Players that deliberately hit an already 'out' player will be in court-misconduct and will be considered eliminated.

Eliminated Players

  • Eliminated players for each team will form a line in the order they were eliminated in, in an appropriate place given the play area.
  • Eliminated players may pass an out of bounds ball back to their team; they may not throw the ball at an opposing player or hold onto a ball.
